In parts of northern, central and coastal California we are in the midst of blackouts. From the National Weather Service: "The electric utility said the shutoffs were being considered based on a fire weather watch. Winds up to 65 mph were expected in some areas, prompting the NWS to issue alerts for elevated, critical and extreme wildfire chances across large swaths of the state. Windy conditions can cause power lines to spark fires when they are blown down, or to come into contact with trees or other vegetation."
In our region, winds began at 11:00pm yesterday with the strongest winds continuing into the early morning hours. We experienced intense gusts, but thankfully, nothing quite like the sustained winds that led to the devastating fires two years ago.
At the recent Quilting in the Garden Quilt Show, the Autumn Breeze wall hanging was prominently displayed in several areas throughout the show - see below for one indoor display:
The Material Girlfriends quilt pattern is quite festive for the season, and appropriate for the diminishing breezes we'll continue to experience throughout the day.
Here is a description and a link to the quilt pattern: This delightful fall wall hanging is 38-1/2" x 38-1/2". Pattern includes fourteen full-color pages of step-by-step instructions, detailed diagrams, and reversed images for tracing or copying on fusible inkjet copier sheets. Large sheet insert for positioning is included.
SING TO ME, AUTUMN
Sing to me, Autumn, with the rustle of your leaves.
Breathe on me your spicy scents that flow within your breeze.
Dance with me, Autumn, your waltz that bends the boughs of trees.
Now tell me all the secrets you've whispered to the seas.
Sleep with me, Autumn, beneath your starlit skies.
Let your yellow harvest moon shimmer in our eyes.
Kiss me, Autumn, with your enchanting spellbound ways
That changes all you touch into crimson golden days.
Love me, Autumn, and behold this love so true
That I'll be waiting faithfully each year to be with you.
