Quilting Day (or National Quilting Day) began in 1991 when members of the National Quilting Association submitted a resolution in Lincoln, NE for the commemoration of the art form.
National Quilting Day is said to be the celebration of both the quilts and the art of quilting itself.
TELL YOUR QUILT STORY
One quilt, one person, one camera + 3 minutes = another quilt story saved!
You spent hours and hours with it. You know everything about it. Why not document its story.
In 2012, the Quilt Alliance began filming short three-minute video interviews at places where quiltmakers gathered for a new project called ‘Go Tell It at the Quilt Show!“. Now we want to hear from you! We’re looking for quilt stories, from antique to modern, appliqué and wholecloth, from the perspective of not just makers, but quilt collectors, recipients, curators, family members, or anyone else who loves quilts.
Sharing your quilt story is as easy as 1, 2, 3:
Make a three minute video about a quilt you love on #NationalQuiltingDay on Saturday, March 18th. Visit www.quiltalliance.org/gti-diy for more information. They will share all of our quilt stories!
What better way to celebrate National Quilting Day than sharing a quilt with the world. Whether it's a quilt you made, a family heirloom, or a beloved part of your quilt collection, Quilt Alliance wants to hear about.
Share your love of quilting: create a quilt video, attend a museum exhibition or local quilt show, visit a quilt shop, sew with a friend, spend time designing, piecing, quilting, binding and celebrating the art of quilting on National Quilting Day!
XOXOX
Great idea for celebrating the day. I wish I had seen this before I published my list for National Quilting Day. Thanks for sharing. The Crafty Quilter 3/20/2017 I'm linking back to your blog post, Julie. I liked that you had some ambitious ways to celebrate and some simple ways for us to stay focused and not get too overwhelmed.
